Private Instruction
Sage Meadows offers one-on-one, private riding lessons in various disciplines including huntseat, jumping, western, dressage, and showmanship. We also strongly believe in teaching our riders good horsemanship. This includes teaching proper horse handling, grooming, tacking, barn maintenance, equine anatomy and vocabulary, as well as equine vet and health care.
Teaching proper horsemanship not only prepares our students for horse ownership, but also teaches the life lessons of hard work, responsibility and the importance of caring for animals.
Lesson Layout
Lessons are generally 1 hour in length and most riders come once per week. However, this varies depending on the riders needs. Some riders require more time per lesson and some riders take multiple lessons per week.
Lessons begin and end with the grooming and tacking of the horse. During this time, students learn and practice proper horsemanship, horse psychology, and safety procedures. Once mounted, the rider works toward their individual goals with the assistance of an experienced and knowledgeable instructor.
Competition
Many of our riders desire to compete in the show ring in order to demonstrate the skills they have mastered. Sage Meadows students have the opportunity to compete in various local shows throughout the year. Students that desire to compete must ride in a minimum of 2 lessons per week. Riders will be allowed to enter a show once they have mastered the skills necessary to safely compete at their current riding level.
